Some who are reading this page either claim, or know who claims, that Jesus at his Death placed "Love thy neighbor as thyself, and the Lord your God with all your heart" in the stead of the Ten Commandments, and particularly the seventh-day Sabbath with Sunday. However, as you see below, I have attempted to describe how Christ's death assures the Sabbath.
Day of Week | Creation Week | Resurrection Week | |
---|---|---|---|
Sixth Day | God created Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:26-31), thus completing the work of Creation. | Christ died (Luke 23:46). God's part in the redemptive work was finished, and Creation reaffirmed (2 Thessalonians 5:17). | |
Seventh Day | God rested from His labors (Genesis 2:1-3), thus instituting the Sabbath. | In the grave, Christ rested from the labor of His dying (Luke 23:53-56); Sabbath reaffirmed. | |
First Day | "In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). | Christ's resurrection, by which He "[makes] all things new" (Rev. 21:5; 2 Thess. 5:17) |
I love to study and discuss the prophecies of Daniel. However, there
is one thing that often bothers me. This is the 2300-day prophecy of
Daniel 8. I know that Ezekiel was told of God, "I have appointed thee
each day for a year" (4:6). Therefore, this would mean 2300 years.
Traditional Adventist belief teaches that these 2300 began at 457 BC
(Artaxerxes' commandment to rebuild the Temple) and ended at AD 1844.
This is not a problem, until you consider that the "little horn" to be
spoken of in Daniel 7:25 and 8 is papal Rome. To be sure, the Papacy
"thought to change times and laws" (7:25) by switching (or trying to switch)
the Sabbath of the Lord to Sunday from Saturday by means of Constantine's law
of AD 321. Papal Rome did not rise till AD 67, at the martyrdom of St.
Peter. 457 BC to 67 AD is a 523-year gap without resolution, except that
in Daniel 9:23, Gabriel tells Daniel, "Consider the vision [you just
had]." That is the only way the prophecy of Rome could start at
457 BC. Even so, is it impossible that these 2300 days might be literal?
There is an excellent website at Scotland's Stewarton Bible School,
where such a teaching, as well as the prophecies in Daniel 12 (1290 days and
1335 days) are expounded. Until this prophecy comes to pass, it will very
much remain one of interest and discussion.
No attempt, by the Black Panthers, Aztlan, Aryan Nations, Identity movement, or other such, to tell me of one race's superiority in Christ or apart from Him, will wash. The God in whom I believe is the one who "made from one blood all nations of men"
(Acts 17:26). On that topic, Jesus said, "If I be lifted up, I will draw all men [not just the white race, or the ethnic Semites, or any who think themselves alone to be God's covenant people] unto Me [and hence to salvation]" (John 12:32).
When John wrote, "Whosoever believeth in [Christ and His sacrifice]
should ... have everlasting life" (3:16), he meant exactly that.
Invitations don't get much more inclusive than that. Therefore, save
racism and racial exclusivity for one who will hear. I will not, and I will not accept such tripe as truth.
The discussion used to close at this point. However, I confess here,
that I sometimes wrestle with said prejudices. I often find myself
looking to a case by case basis, so as to alleviate my conscience. I am
wrong to do this, and seek not only the aid of such a God as described
above, but the prayers of any willing party, that I may no longer so
think.
Two things are not to be doubted. One: God is the source of
knowledge. Two: He is still in the business of miracles. Is it impossible
that these propositions might be, in this day, united? The Lord told
Daniel (12:4) that at "the time of the end, knowledge will be increased."
Not merely spiritual knowledge, but what can be read in books and learned
from the world around. And to be sure, medicine has made great strides in
the last 15-20 years, and that was a leap from the 30 or so prior. I
therefore hypothesize that many advances in medicine are nothing short of
miraculous revelations from God Himself. Even so, man still possesses a
finite mind, to which God has not revealed everything, or a fraction of
it. Therefore, there still need to be supernatural miracles, that God may
reveal himself as the one true source of doctors' and nurses' knowledge.
Additionally, in 1996 I wrote a page called The Truth About Christ's
Return and present it here for you.
